Where has the year gone? It seems like it was just the other day that I was taking my Christmas tree down and now it's time to give gifts again.
I love this time of year! Families get together, you decorate your homes, and you bake until your hearts content--well, I do anyway.
We are busy these days at Second Baptist Childcare. The Lord has allowed us to care for so many precious children. The classrooms are decorated for the holidays. The children's faces light up when they see everything. Christmas parties are going on and gifts are being swapped, and with all this excitement it's easy for them and us to forget the true meaning of Christmas.
"And she brought forth her first born son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger...."
May we never forget the true meaning of Christmas. Christ came to this world for you and me, to give us the gift of eternal life. May this season find you and yours celebrating the true meaning of that glorious gift.
Remember, the daycare will be closed for the Christmas Holidays on Friday, December 23 and Monday, December 26. We will also, be closed on Monday, January 2 for New Years.
May the Joy of Christ fill your hearts the Christmas Season and the year to come!
Merry Christmas from the Second Baptist Church Childcare/Learning Center
Mrs. Ann

A Thankful Heart.....

On facebook a few weeks ago, I noticed that several of my family and friends were putting on their status things they were thankful for. I read many of them and thought, I need to do this as well. So, began my daily post. As the days and weeks have past, and I sit down to post for the day, I realize just how amazing God has been to me and how very thankful I am for His many blessings. I began with thanking Him for my family, my salvation, my job, hugs and kisses, laughter, music and the list goes on and on....

This morning as I sat down to post, I could hear infants crying and toddlers playing (with a few screams thrown in) and I thought to myself, thank you. Thank you, Lord, for the crying and screaming of the children, thank you, Lord, for the sounds of children laughing and playing and running and jumping. Thank you, Lord, for all of this. Because with the laughing and playing, crying and screaming, I know that these children are in a safe place and are loved and being cared for. I know that these children get lots of hugs and love from the ladies who take care of them. They are taught about Jesus and His love for them. They are taught their A, B, C's and 1, 2, 3's. They are taught to say, "excuse me" and "thank you," and tell me over and over again, " I love you, Mrs. Ann".
I am a blessed woman. I have an amazing job and I work with some awesome people. But most of all, I serve a loving God who has seen fit to bless me with all of these wonderful things. And my heart is Thankful...
and may your heart be truly thankful this season! -Mrs. Ann

Pre - K Registration!

The new school year is very quickly approaching! Maybe you are thinking about the school year and your child getting a good start to his or her education. We have a few slots available for our Pre-K 4 classroom for the 2011-2012 school year. The ABEKA Curriculum from Pennsacola Christian Schools is the one we use at Second Baptist. It has a beautiful way of incorporating God and His principles for life into learning. The Bible curriculum is wonderful! The children learn memory verses from God's word and stories about the men and women of the Bible. They are also taught Reading and Writing, Language Development, Poetry, Science, History and Math. We, first and foremost want to give your child the best foundation possible and feel that the ABEKA Curriculum helps us achieve that goal! If you are interested, please come by and visit with us, take a tour, or give us a call at 912-283-0436. The school year begins August 1, 2011, so, we hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Ann Lane
Director of Childcare

We have two winners! It has been too hot to allow the little ones, at the daycare, to go out in the afternoon so we go out in the early morning and stay inside and hydrated in the afternoon. We are playing board games and reading. This afternoon I begin reading "The Secret of Shark Reef", by William Arden, to the older children. I am excited! There is nothing I like better than reading a good book and reading it to the children will be so much fun!

Reading to the children brings back a memory from my childhood. During the summer months, my mother would gather us on the porch around the swing and read to us. Most often it was a book full of suspense and she would end every session with, "Come back tomorrow and find out what happens". I loved it!

When the temperature spikes to 104, nevermind the heat index, we want to stay indoors with the AC or outside in the pool, if you are so blessed! A great alternative, or add-on, is reading a good book to your children and enjoying quality time. Allow yourself to get caught up in the excitement of the story. The children will love it. Create lasting memories that your children will cherish for a lifetime! God bless you.
Mrs. Ann

Celebrate Easter!

New life is springing up all around us! New growth appears everywhere we look. Trees no longer show bare branches, green grass is beginning to replace dry dead grass of last year, babies of all kinds are beginning to hop and chirp. The sounds of spring! New life! With all the majesty of God's creation there is none that can touch the gift of life God has given in His son Jesus. We celebrate His resurrection in Easter. We celebrate His gift of life everyday we live for Him!

There is no better way to see new life than through the eyes of a child. We are blessed to see the faces of children everyday as they see those things around them that often go unnoticed to us as we grow older. My heart is always touched when I walk into a room of 1, 2 or 3 year old children and am greeted with little ones coming and hugging my legs and telling all about what they are doing. They can make you feel as if you are someone special. If you are having a hard time seeing all the wonder of this season, take time to take your child by the hand and go for a walk. This is the time of the year that I am reminded of God's love for me and the greatest gift ever given. "JESUS"

What an awesome gift He gave. What love He showed you and me. No other gift can compare to this gift. No other gift can or will ever measure up to this one gift. There will never be another gift like this one. None!

We are always wondering what to give the folks we love. We spend days shopping for the right gift for that special someone. We want everything to be just perfect. We want our homes decorated to the "T". All this is done in good fun and excitement and we have wonderful times with our family and friends. We sit for hours watching our favorite Christmas movies on TV. We do lots of baking and sharing our goodies with others.

But in all this fuss and excitement, may we never forget the real reason for this season! Jesus! He came willingly to this earth for one purpose only ---for you and me!

So this Christmas, read to your children, "The Night Before Christmas" but also read to them, Luke 2, the real Christmas Story, "Jesus, the greatest gift ever given". May we never lose sight of the real reason for the "Christ" in Christmas!

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!

Mrs. Ann

Fall is Here

Fall! One of my favorite seasons. I love the cooler weather, the leaves changing colors and the different smells associated with this time of the year. A warm apple pie with a hint of cinnamon, baking in the oven, a large pot of homemade vegetable soup cooking on the stove, and a plate of fresh baked cookies cooling for the children's after-school snack. All these things remind me of fall, but the thing I think of the most is the changing of the leaves. This is God’s way of refreshing and rejuvenating the earth. The leaves on the trees change colors due to the flowing sap in the tree slowing down and getting ready for winter. During the growing season, chlorophyll is continually being produced and broken down and leaves appear green. As the nights begin to get longer, in the autumn, chlorophyll production slows down and then stops and eventually all the chlorophyll is destroyed. The carotenoids and anthocyanins that are present in the leaf are then unmasked and show their autumn colors. Isn’t our God amazing! His palette of colors, are so vivid, bright, and beautiful. He splashes His canvas, our world, with these colors for us to enjoy. We should take the time to slow down and behold His handy-work! Take a drive through the hill country, bring along a picnic basket and relax with those you love or sit on the front porch and enjoy God’s world of color.

Adding On.....

Wow! What a busy week! But you know, God is in control. We are getting ready to open a new room and excitement is in the air! This room will accommodate 12 to 14 - 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 year old children and there will be 2 teachers in the classroom as well.. Lots to be done though-- the room needs painting, shelves need to be brought in and the room needs to be decorated. It's always exciting when you get to decorate a new room and make it your own. So, stick around, come check us out! We're here Monday through Friday 6:30am to 6:00pm.

Check out our April Newsletter at: www.secondbaptistwaycross.com/publications/daycarenewletter.pdf

The other day while I was washing dishes, I looked out my kitchen window and saw a beautiful red cardinal. His red feathers were so vibrant and beautiful, that I stood there for a few minutes and watched him. I always know when spring is just around the corner when the birds start showing up. It is so amazing to see God's handiwork in the smallest things. The vibrant colors on the birds of the air, the warm sun on a cool day, the smile of a child, the warmth of a child's hug....I could go on and on, but I think you get my point. God is sharing His mighty handiwork with us and we just need to take a few minutes to observe and enjoy it. It seems that in this day and age, we don't know if we are coming or going. Life is like a rat race. That's why I like Sundays, I can slow the day down, (actually I can't but it feels like it), and enjoy the singing, fellowship and the preaching of God's word. It gets me rejuvenated for the new week. We've all heard the phrase "take time to smell the roses", please take the time with your families and enjoy this new season and the good things that God brings into your lives. Have a beautiful day and always remember to take the time to notice God's handiwork.

Burrrrrr! It sure is cold these days!!! It's been so cold here at Second Baptist Church Childcare Learning Center that we had snow on the ground this morning! Ms. Andrea and Ms. Susan's three year old classes along with Mrs. Kelly's Pre-K class enjoyed a morning of snow angels and snowball fights. A great big "Thank you!" to Mr. William Eunice and Mr. Jim Steedley for making this morning possible for our children to enjoy. It was exciting to watch the children's faces and to answer their question "what is it?" Some of them have never seen snow!
The Bible teaches us, " .....wash me and I shall be whiter than snow...." for the year 2010, I decided not to make new years resolution but to set a goal for myself. My goal for this year is to keep my eyes on the Lord and not on man. I realize if I keep my eyes on Jesus everything else is going to fall right into place!
My goal for Second Baptist Church Childcare/Learning Center is to keep our eyes on Jesus and on our families! Our children and families are so important to us and we want all of them to know and realize this! It is an honor and privilege to serve each one of them. We would not exist if it weren't for our families. God has blessed us tremendously this past year and we look forward to what He has in store for us in 2010!
My prayer for each of our families is that God will bless you and yours to the fullest!
Proverbs 3:5 & 6

Mrs. Ann

Fall Is In The Air

I have always loved this time of the year. I'm looking forward to chilly days and the aroma of pumpkin pie throughout the house. Children wrapped in coats and sweaters and there is nothing better than a good cup of coffee (or hot chocolate), a book, and a blanket relaxing in the recliner. This is also the time of year when we make time to be with our loved ones. In this day and age, it seems as if we are too busy to stop and spend time with those around us. Children get bigger and we adults get older and hopefully wiser. God is truly blessing here at Second Baptist Childcare. We have 135 children enrolled so far this year. I wish we had more rooms to take care of more children. God has given us an awesome responsibility in caring for these children. We do not take our jobs lightly. The Bible teaches, "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it." That's what we hope to do, train up your child as well as our own in the ways of the Lord. We hope and pray that we teach even the smallest child that he/she is special and unique and God made them for a reason. We hope that we, along with our parents, teach these children to be the best they can be. Where has the time gone? School will be out for Summer break in just a few weeks. High school graduations are just around the corner, and so is the Pre-K class of 2009 at the Second Baptist Church Childcare/Learning Center. The children have been working hard all year and learning so many wonderful things. We are so proud of them! They have been rehearsing in the sanctuary every day. I listen at the back door, because when I walk in they wave and holler, "Hey, Mrs. Ann." It blesses my heart to see little children reciting memory verses from the Bible. Counting to 100, reading sentences, singing, and reciting poetry. Their minds are like little sponges absorbing everything they come in contact with.
On Saturday, May 9, 2009, at 7:00p.m., we will be having our 2009 Pre-K graduation ceremony. We would like to take this time to invite you all to join us in celebrating what the children have learned and also, in the celebration of this tiny stepping stone in what is to become the first of many steps to their bright futures.
May God richly bless you all,
Mrs. Ann

What a Great Day!

Spring is Here! The birds are chirping, maybe a little quietly this morning, but they're chirping. The grass has turned green and flowers are blooming. If you look hard enough you can see the wild lilies blooming next to the highways and in open fields. This time of the year reminds me of new birth. The cold dark earth has kept dormant all these lovely living plants that God has so graciously blessed our planet with and when the time is right - they burst forth into beautiful things for us to enjoy. It reminds me of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. His death represents the cold dark earth and then 3 days later - He is resurrected and brings to us -new life - a life everlasting that we can have with Him. May this Easter you truly enjoy the Full meaning of Easter and share it with your family and friends. The days have warmed up, the sky is clear and the birds are chirping. I believe Spring is just around the corner. This time of the year is always nice. Flowers begin to bloom, the grass turns green, and the children could stay outside and play forever. This time is also when we begin our in-house registration for next year. Classrooms are decorated and everything is covered in hearts! Love is in the air. Stop and think about it for a moment. Love- what is love?
There are many forms of love. A mother's touch, a child's hug, a small kiss on the cheek, a written note in a heart, a card, a bouquet of flowers, or a box of chocolates. All these things we think of during this time of the year. But a love that transcends every other kind of love that there is- is an agape love. The love that Jesus has for you and me. The love that sent Him to the old rugged tree. A love<img style="float:left; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_KES3mhUwRjU/SYvADn3DnMI/AAAAAAAAAWk/LaqAVpnUTr4/s200/Buck.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5299540555003567298" />
that I, in my own mind have a hard time understanding. God loved me, a sinner, so much that He was willing to give the Ultimate gift, His son. The Bible tells us in John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." How amazing is that! God gave His son, Jesus, for you and me. He loved us that much. He gave us the Ultimate gift of Love.

When I think of love and the kind of love I have for my husband, my children, my family and even the love I have for your children, I can't help but to think of the great love that God has for all of us. The giving of His Son was the ultimate gift of love. So on this Valentine's Day, when remembering your loved ones, also remember God and the gift of love He so willingly gave for you and me.

From the Pastor's Desk

Greetings and grace to you on this most blessed time of
the year. The few days between Thanksgiving and Christmas
give us all some time to enjoy the most enjoyable
part of life God and Children. A simple word to you is
that we enjoy your children here at Second Baptist. Please
know that if there is any thing we can help you with, any
concern you may have, or simply you would like someone
to talk to, come by my office anytime, call me, or
email me for you are #1.

In the days ahead you are going to hear many humorous
things from your kids and grandkids. She looked at her
mother and inquisitively asked, "Why are some of your
hairs white, Mom?” Her mother replied, "Well, every
time that you do something wrong and make me cry or
unhappy, one of my hairs turns white." The activities of summer will soon be sweet memories and fall with all it’s festivities is approaching quickly!

I want to take this opportunity to thank you and let you know how much we appreciate you. You have allotted us the privilege to care for your most precious possessions, your children. God has blessed us with such an awesome responsibility and we do not take it lightly.

I want to encourage you to make memories with your children. As a child, my mother would create “My Day”. She made us a crown and we sat on our throne (a chair) at the head of the table to eat. She took a picture of us with our crown and also took us to Dairy Queen to get our favorite treat. My brothers and sisters and I still talk about the times we had as children.
